Münster, 23 March 2012 - United Labels AG (ISIN: DE 0005489561), one of
Europe's leading producers and distributors of cartoon-based merchandise
sold under licence, recorded further revenue growth in the 2011 financial
year just ended. Group sales rose to EUR59.6 million (prev. year: EUR58.7
million). Group profit for the year totalled EUR0.5 million (prev. year:
EUR1.1 million), which corresponds to earnings per share of EUR0.13.
As in the previous year, growth was again driven by the Key Account
segment. In this segment, sales revenue increased by 9% to EUR44.2 million
(prev. year: EUR40.6 million). Within this area, new textile and clothing
collections featuring the licences 'Cars 2', 'The Smurfs' and 'The
Simpsons' provided the main impetus for revenue growth over the course of
the 2011 financial year. The Special Retail segment saw revenue decline by
15% to EUR15.4 million. The contraction in business within this area was
attributable primarily to the Spanish licence 'Patito Feo', which lost its
attraction in Southern Europe in the financial year just ended, having
previously enjoyed significant success in 2010. Correspondingly, the region
of Southern Europe recorded a significant decline in earnings, which was
reflected in Group profit.
Consolidated revenue generated by the German parent company of United
Labels rose by 28% to EUR29.6 million. By contrast, business performance at
the regional companies in Southern Europe was dominated by the euro crisis.
Impacted by the economic climate, revenue generated in Spain fell by 16% to
EUR16.4 million, while the Italian company saw its revenue decline by 21%
to EUR2.6 million. The French subsidiary, meanwhile, recorded slight
growth, as did United Labels Hong Kong.
The growth concept drawn up by United Labels AG for the coming years is to
be rolled out under the heading of 'NextGen' - Next Generation. In
addition to securing and expanding profitability as well as stabilising the
associated profit margins, the company will mainly be looking to achieve
further expansion at an international level and capture an additional share
of these markets. In this context, the focus within the existing areas of
business will be on France, the Benelux countries and Eastern Europe.
Additionally, the Group established a new company at the beginning of the
year, by the name of Elfen-Service GmbH, which is responsible for
developing a new e-commerce platform for merchandise relating to licensed
goods and toys.
